Are Bargain Pool Supplies A Good Deal? This is sort of a rant. I have gone back to buying more expensive pool supplies (like santizer) at pool stores. I do not buy them at the local hardware store or the “Megalo-Mart” (Mart of Wal) any more. They may seem cheaper, but I found better ways to save money on swimming pool supplies. Look at an example. A tub of chlorine tabs may only cost $12 at your local discount store. It may cost $30 at your pool supply store. But I have discovered that the more expensive tabs tend to last about a week. The cheaper tabs seem to turn to muck after about a day, plus they leave a lot of cloudy residue. Since my experience with the more expensive chlorine tabs is, at least, seven times better – and they only cost about twice as much, I have made up my mind to buy the more expensive ones. But that doesn’t mean you have to always buy expensive pool supplies. What is shock? It is chlorine! Sometimes you can use plain bottles of household bleach to shock your pool. The concentration of grocery store bleach will be less, [...]

Can an Investment in Salt Chlorine Systems Save You Money on Your Pool? You know that we always say that sometimes you should spend some money in order to save money and time in the long run. Salt chlorine systems can cost hundreds of dollars, but we feel as if they save money in the long run. Common Table Salt – Costs 1/6 of the price of normal pool chemicals, and it is much safer to store. If you have young kids, the advantages of table salt over toxic chlorine may be priceless! How many swimming suits have you bleached out? Is your hair dry from pool chlorine? Do you get rid or itchy eyes or skin? Owners of salt chlorine systems report much better experiences with their pool water. Has keeping your water clean and blue become a big chore which takes up time you could use for other things? Many people report that using a modern salt to chlorine system is much simpler, and lets them enjoy their pool longer with less time spent worrying about pool problems. Now these systems may not be for every swimming pool owner, but most people who have purchased them really enjoy [...]

Can You Use Grocery Store Pool Supplies? I purchased a good quality above ground pool because it seemed like the sensible and affordable solution. While I admit I went for quality, I also opted out of digging a giant hole in my backyard. Living where I do, in the sunbelt, a private pool is a great luxury, but I took the frugal approach. Note that a very cheap above ground pool may not be worth the headache, but a good quality above ground pool, pump, and filter can give you decades of pleasure for a fraction of the cost of an inground pool! Now in my quest to save money I have found that many orginary grocery store staples can replace expensive pool store chemicals to keep water balanced. If your pool has gotten very bad, it may be in your best interest to visit a pool store because they can give you expert recomendations. But if you just want to maintain your water balance, you have no reason to overpay for pool supplies! Do Balance Your Water PH with Test Strips – A bottle of test strips or a pool testing kit is one investment you probably need to [...]
