Do You Always Spend More Than Your Budget At Grocery Stores? I know that I can count on food and other grocery expenses every month. We all have to eat and feed our families, right? However, I also have always had trouble with exceeding my planned grocery budget. I have joked that there must be some sort of drug in the air at the market to force me to buy things I had not planned on picking up. Let me mention that I have never thought people should stick to a hard and fast grocery list. You may do better when you can shop the sales, take advantage of bargains, or allow yourself some flexibility so you can try something new! However, I often return home to put away my groceries, and then find I did not really get any bargain at all. Grocery Stores Know Psychology! Our brain appears to be susceptible to “signals”, and these signals allow us to be primed to purchase things. You may think that your weekly trip to the market a fairly mindless activity, but this could not be further from the truth! Mark Lindstrom, author of the book Brainwashed, tells us exactly how [...]

Are You Paying Yourself First? Wow, my parents gave me some really good advice that I keep forgetting to follow. They always said, Pay Yourself First! They also said that a secure life was not so much about what you saved, but what you earned. This may seem trite advice, belonging to another generation. However, if you examine the lives of some regular people who have secure amounts of money socked away, you will see they naturally followed these oldies but goodies! You have all seen some examples of amazing effects of compounded savings. If you do not have enough retirement savings socked away, or worse yet, you do not even have a good emergency fund, it really is time to evaluate the way you have been handling money. I am aware that many people are without income these days, and that is probably no time to worry about future savings, but it may be time to decide to change once that new job does come along. Examples Of Modest Savings Adding Up It is also a bad time to present amazing examples of savings with CDs (Certificates of Deposit) or regular savings account since interest rates are so low. [...]

Need Some Quotes On Saving Money By Famous People? The next time you need some inspiration to pack away your credit cards, or just a good line to use on your kids, you can consult these famous quotes on being frugal! Ben Franklin was pretty well known for his thouughts on the subject. A penny saved is a penny earned If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting - I like the last one, and my own dad always said, “It’s not how much you make. It’s how much you save.” This is similar advice, and as a teen, of course, it always annoyed me. Now I just wish I had paid more attention earlier. :) Sir Henry Taylor also had some words on the subect. The art of living easily as to money is to pitch your scale of living one degree below your means. That should strike a chord with many people, especially these days. Samuel Johnson, the English poet and critic had some very sage advice too. Without frugality none can be rich. With it, few would be poor. So you have a favorite Frugal Living Quotes?
Well, now there is no doubt about the fact that the US, and the world, is enduring an economic downturn. We have been watching financial leaders and politicians deny if long enough, but even they are admitting it now. However, as much as we are all struggling to watch our expenses and keep our savings, we do find that some people do ok during a recession, and some people even prosper! What is the difference between those that can barely survive the crisis, and those that make out ok? I think the difference is being, just like a Boy Scout, prepared! Look for some practical tips here: Surviving a Recession. It is mostly downhome advice like saving money, reducing debt and preparing yourself for a job loss.
Why Aren’t Americans Saving Money? FREE EASY BUDGET WORKSHEET TO DOWNLOAD AND PRINT Most of us aren’t saving enough money for one simple reason. The reason is that we spend too much! The reason that we spend too much is because we have not spent a few minutes to prepare a budget, and so we have totally underestimated our monthly expenses. That is why we have included this simple budget worksheet. I have to be honest. When I sat down and worked out my budget, I had underestimated my monthly expected by hundreds of dollars. Oh, I figured in my mortgage, and I even allowed for utilities and insurance. But I think I made the same mistake that many people make, and I underestimated what I spent every month on groceries and other consumable goods. See I remembered what I spent on groceries, but I did not remember to include the mid-week trip to pick up more shampoo and dog food, or the three times a week I ran into my corner drug store, and the almost daily stops at the convenience store. I needed to double the figure. That miscalculation made me think I had more money for eating out, [...]
