Why Am I Writing About Colon Cleanses on The Frugal Pig?

Yeah, I know they are nasty to think about, and you may think they belong in a natural remedies website, and not a frugal living website like this one. However, I myself, have had some good experiences by using a natural colon cleanse supplement, especially when I felt I was about to come down with something. In the winter, when I feel a scratchy throat or cold coming on, I take a colon cleanse supplement, and the problem usually resolves itself by the next morning.

Some benefits of a colon cleanse are improved digestion, more effective immune system, relief of bloating and constipation, and a more comfortable physical body. Some people report that they help them reduce food cravings, because a clean digestion helps us to absorb nutrients from fod that we eat, so we don’t always crave more food.

Anyway, our friends at the over 50 website have published a free trial colon cleanse offer, and it is one way to find out if a natural and gentle supplement will help you. Improving our health and reducing junk food cravings will certainly aid your quest for a frugal lifestyle!

Cheap Homemade Sunburn Relief

Summer Sun Means Sunburns

As sure as April showers bring May flowers, the summer sun brings sunburns. Oh, of course we should use sunscreen and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. But we do not want to pass up a day at the beach or neighborhood pool for the fun and exercise. Despite our best efforts to protect our skin, we do suffer a burn once in awhile.

Homemade Sunburn Relief

We all know about aloe, and if you have a plant at home that is great. You can also buy preparations with aloe in them. However, this wonderful, cooling preparation can be taken right out of the fridge without buying a specially made sunburn gel or growing any plants!

You need 1 tablespoon of Yogurt at room temp. It should be regular yogurt, and not the low fat variety. You also need 1 teaspoon of soft honey. You can warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave so it is soft. You also need some hot or warm water and a washcloth. That’s it!

Mix the honey and yogurt together. Apply the mixture to your burn. Then soak the washcloth in the hot water and use it to wash your face.  Use common sense about the temprerature of the water. A sunburn may not enjoy very hot water, but you may want a steaming washcloth if you use this for an every day facial.

Tips: You can also use this preparation as a wonderful, soothing facial. If your skin is dry, you can double the honey. If your skin is oily, add a few drops of lemon or lime juice.

But we actually have some very valid tips. First, look at the deductible. Raising the deductible is one of the surest ways to reduce the premium. The difference between a $1k yearly deductible and a $5k deductible can be hundreds of dollars a year. An HSA account, which allows you to earn interest in a savings account that can be used to meet the deductble and copays, and which also has tax advantages, can be a great step towards frugal health insurance!

Learn more about how to find the best individual health insurance for you and your family. If you are confused about the different types of health insurance, look at a comparison between HSA and PPO and HMO Medical Plans.
