Summer Sun Means Sunburns

As sure as April showers bring May flowers, the summer sun brings sunburns. Oh, of course we should use sunscreen and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. But we do not want to pass up a day at the beach or neighborhood pool for the fun and exercise. Despite our best efforts to protect our skin, we do suffer a burn once in awhile.

We all know about aloe, and if you have a plant at home that is great. You can also buy preparations with aloe in them. However, this wonderful, cooling preparation can be taken right out of the fridge without buying a specially made sunburn gel or growing any plants!

You need 1 tablespoon of Yogurt at room temp. It should be regular yogurt, and not the low fat variety. You also need 1 teaspoon of soft honey. You can warm it up for a few seconds in the microwave so it is soft. You also need some hot or warm water and a washcloth. That’s it!

Mix the honey and yogurt together. Apply the mixture to your burn. Then soak the washcloth in the hot water and use it to wash your face.  Use common sense about the temprerature of the water. A sunburn may not enjoy very hot water, but you may want a steaming washcloth if you use this for an every day facial.

Tips: You can also use this preparation as a wonderful, soothing facial. If your skin is dry, you can double the honey. If your skin is oily, add a few drops of lemon or lime juice.
