Vegetarian Barbecue Ideas

Vegetarian Barbecue Ideas

One great way to reduce the costs of your popular barbecued meals is by relying more on the produce section instead of the meat section. Of course, the vegetarians in your family will appreciate this. But the budget watchers in your family will appreciate it too! You can use these ideas for the 4th of July, Labor Day, or any time you want to have a cook out!

Grilling Vegetables and Fruit

So you may be wondering what tastes good cooked on the grill or smoker. Well, if you have not tried it, you may be in for a real treat! We got some of these ideas from here – 4th of July Vegetarian Grill – and some from other experiences with Asian grilling and cooking.

By placing more emphasis on grilled vegetables and fruit, and less on meat, you should be able to save money and promote a greener and more humane diet too.

Consider slices of sweet potato, placed on the rack or stuck on skewers. Honestly, I think these are so full of natural flavor, you really can eat them plain. But a dab of margarine, butter, or olive oil is nice. Some people like to add a bit of cloves or cinnamon too.  They are also quite filling and full of fiber. I find that when I eat a stack of sweet potato slices, I start getting full, so I may stay away from other things that are less healthy.

Carrots are similar, and grilling brings out a great natural sweetness, though they won’t be as filling. Add some chunks of onion and pineapple to your skewer, and you will have created a surprising and wonderful treat.
